MakeItLit!

Draft: this wording is still being reviewed, and a few business details are yet to be filled in.

Terms of Service

Last updated 2026-10-01

These terms are an agreement between you and [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] ("we"), which runs MakeItLit!. By creating an account or using MakeItLit!, you agree to them, to our Community Guidelines, and to how we handle data as described in our Privacy Policy.

Who can use MakeItLit!

To use the app, you must:

You get one account. Your profile must be about you, with your real age.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account.

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Edit profile, then Delete account).

How you use it

Follow the Community Guidelines. In short, never:

We use automated checks and human review to find this. We may remove content, limit features, or suspend or ban accounts that break these terms or the guidelines, or that put people at risk.

Things that disappear (a message you unsend, a view-once photo, a High Key selfie or voice bit, your account when you delete it) disappear for everyone at once, but we keep an encrypted copy for 7 days for safety reports and lawful requests, as the Privacy Policy explains. Don’t use MakeItLit! to plan or hide harm to anyone.

If we hide your profile or suspend your account, we tell you why in the app (the kind of reports, never who made them), and you can ask for a review once per decision. A person reviews it, not the one who made the decision, and you see the answer in the app.

Your content

You own what you post: photos, videos, prompts, messages. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, show and process it to run and improve the app, including checking it for safety. The license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we must keep (see the Privacy Policy).

Only post what you have the right to share: your own photos and videos, or ones you have permission to use. Do not post other people’s private information.

Private photos

Private photos can only be sent between two adults who have both turned them on, or agreed to them in a chat. They are checked before delivery; explicit images are never delivered. A private photo can be opened once, for a few seconds.

Saving, photographing or sharing someone else’s private photo breaks these terms and may be illegal.

The app blocks screenshots where the phone allows it. It cannot stop someone photographing a screen with another device. Only send what you would be comfortable with the other person keeping.

Safety

MAKEITLIT! DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS OR CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS ON ITS MEMBERS. Selfie verification (the Solid badge) only shows that someone’s selfies, taken live doing moves we asked for, matched their photos. It does not confirm their identity or say anything about their character.

You are responsible for your interactions with other people, online and in person. Read the Safety center before meeting anyone.

Our Safety Policy explains what isn’t allowed, what we check and what we don’t, what happens after a report, and how to ask for a review.

If we ban an account that sent you a message because of fraud or a false identity, we’ll tell you: in the app, by notification and by email.

Paid features

Paid plans (Lit+ and Lit Afterlife) are monthly subscriptions bought through the App Store or Google Play. Each renews automatically every month at the price shown before you buy, until you cancel.

Cancel anytime in your store’s subscription settings, or from Settings, then Manage subscription, in the app. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.

If you cancel, your plan stays on until the end of the month you paid for. There are no refunds for part of a month; the store handles refund requests under its policies, except where the law gives you other rights.

Your price stays the same while you stay subscribed. Prices during our Soft Launch stay yours for as long as you stay subscribed; if you cancel and come back later, you pay the price then. If we ever need to change the price of a plan you already have, we’ll tell you between 7 and 30 days before it changes, so you can cancel first.

Plans also change how much compatibility you see and how your deck is ordered: Lit+ adds looks, love language and social energy, and puts people who are your type, both ways, first; Lit Afterlife adds movie and music taste and puts members on a plan first. Nobody is ever hidden by it.

We email you the terms when you subscribe (keep that email), what you were charged and how to cancel each time it renews, a reminder once a year, and a note when you cancel.

Rewards from watching ads, such as extra Keeps or pose packs, have no cash value.

Invites and rewards

You can invite friends with your invite code. When a friend enters it in their first 7 days, verifies their profile and is still using MakeItLit! a week after joining, you get a reward: 7 days with no ads in the feed, a 24-hour boost (shown sooner in other people’s decks), and that day’s likes refilled. The friend doesn’t get anything for joining. You can earn up to 5 rewards a month, and ad-free time never runs more than 8 weeks ahead.

Rewards have no cash value, can’t be transferred, and don’t extend or refund a paid plan. We may change or end invites at any time; rewards you’ve already earned stay until they run out, and so do free weeks earned before we changed the rewards.

Invite real people who want to join. Inviting yourself, using fake accounts, or selling or trading codes cancels the reward and can cost you your account. Invites between accounts that have been on the same phone don’t earn rewards. If you share your invite code publicly, say that you get a reward when someone uses it. Your friend code is separate: it lets people send you friend requests, so share it only with people you know.

Invite rewards, and free features where the app is new in your area, may need a verified mobile number: one number per account. When you ask for a code, we send you one text with it. Message and data rates may apply.

New York members

If you’re a New York member (you gave a New York address or ZIP code, or were in New York when you signed up), these apply to your paid plan, which is a contract for a social referral service under New York General Business Law section 394-c:

YOU, THE BUYER, MAY CANCEL THIS CONTRACT WITHOUT ANY CANCELLATION FEE WITHIN THREE (3) BUSINESS DAYS AFTER THE DATE OF THIS CONTRACT. SEE THE ATTACHED NOTICE OF CANCELLATION FORM FOR AN EXPLANATION OF THIS RIGHT.

NOTICE OF CANCELLATION. YOU MAY CANCEL THIS CONTRACT, WITHOUT ANY PENALTY OR OBLIGATION, WITHIN THREE (3) BUSINESS DAYS AFTER THE DATE OF THIS CONTRACT BY MAILING THIS SIGNED AND DATED NOTICE OF CANCELLATION BY CERTIFIED OR REGISTERED UNITED STATES MAIL OR EMAIL TO THE SELLER AT THE ADDRESS OR EMAIL ADDRESS SPECIFIED HEREIN. IF YOU CANCEL, ANY PAYMENTS MADE BY YOU UNDER THE CONTRACT WILL BE RETURNED WITHIN TEN (10) BUSINESS DAYS FOLLOWING RECEIPT BY THE SELLER OF YOUR CANCELLATION NOTICE. TO CANCEL THIS TRANSACTION, MAIL BY CERTIFIED OR REGISTERED UNITED STATES MAIL OR EMAIL A SIGNED AND DATED COPY OF THIS CANCELLATION NOTICE TO: [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], [MAILING ADDRESS], or support@makeitlit.app, NOT LATER THAN THREE BUSINESS DAYS AFTER THE DATE YOU SUBSCRIBED. (The date of the transaction is the date on your store receipt. Please include your username, sign it by typing your full name, and also cancel the renewal in your store’s subscription settings.)

If MakeItLit! shows you no possible matches at all for two months in a row, you can cancel and get back what you paid for those months, less a cancellation fee of 15% of the price or a share for the matches you were shown, whichever is greater (the fee New York’s law allows).

We never sell, assign or otherwise transfer your personal information, including your answers, photos or background, without your prior written consent.

You can put your membership on hold for up to a year by writing to us. Your profile is hidden and your plan stops renewing while it’s on hold; we’ll explain how that works with your store when you ask.

When our services to you end, for any reason, we delete the personal information you gave us and send you a certificate that it was deleted, unless a law or a court order requires us to keep some of it.

MakeItLit! is available across the United States, so moving within it changes nothing. If you move to live somewhere it isn’t offered, you can cancel, and we’ll refund the unused part of your current month.

We never require you to buy anything else (an “ancillary service”) to get a plan. Your Dating Service Consumer Bill of Rights is linked wherever you buy or renew a plan, and in the app’s Legal pages.

Demo profiles

Where MakeItLit! has just started, you can choose to see demo profiles so you can try the app before many people have joined. They are made-up people we created, marked “Demo · not a real person”, who match and reply automatically. They’re off unless you turn them on, never count toward anything you pay for, and go away once enough real people have joined or the demo period ends. Messages you send them are stored like other messages and deleted with your account.

Removing intimate images and copyrighted content

If an intimate image of you was shared without your consent, whether or not you use MakeItLit!, ask us to remove it: use “Remove an image” in the app’s Safety center (no account needed), makeitlit.app/takedown, or takedown@makeitlit.app. Tell us where it is, and who posted it if you know; you don’t need to send us the image. We act on valid requests within 48 hours and remove the copies we know of. If the person in it was under 18, we also report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Copyright: if you believe something on MakeItLit! copies your work without permission, send a notice to our designated copyright agent at [COPYRIGHT AGENT CONTACT]. Include your name and contact details; the work you own; where the copy is on MakeItLit! (a username or screenshot helps); a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized by you, your agent or the law; and a statement that your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the right or may act for its owner, with your physical or electronic signature.

We then remove or disable that content and tell the person who posted it. If they believe it was removed by mistake, they can send our copyright agent a counter-notice: their name and contact details, what was removed and where it was, a statement under penalty of perjury that it was removed by mistake or misidentification, their consent to the jurisdiction of a U.S. federal court, and their signature. We pass it on to the person who complained, and may put the content back 10 to 14 business days later unless they tell us they have gone to court.

We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe copyright.

Ending your use

You can stop using the app and delete your account whenever you want. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect people.

If something’s not right

If something about MakeItLit! seems wrong to you, including how a feature works or whether it follows the law, please tell us first: Settings, then How it works, then “Something’s not right” on that feature, or support@makeitlit.app. We answer within 10 business days. Telling us doesn’t limit any right you have, including going to a court or a government agency.

Disclaimers and liability

MakeItLit! is provided “as is”. We can’t promise it will always be available or error-free, or that you will meet anyone.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for anyone’s conduct on or off the app. [LIMITATION OF LIABILITY, INDEMNITY AND DISPUTE-RESOLUTION TERMS TO BE WRITTEN WITH COUNSEL.]

Changes and contact

If we change these terms in a meaningful way, the app will ask you to agree again before you continue.

These terms are governed by the laws of [STATE / COUNTRY]. Questions: support@makeitlit.app, [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], [MAILING ADDRESS].
