Dating safely
MAKEITLIT! DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS OR CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS ON ITS MEMBERS.
The Solid badge only means someone’s live selfies matched their photos. It isn’t a background check or an ID check.
Online dating safety awareness
- People aren’t always who they say they are. Anyone who can steal an identity can fake a dating profile, and profiles can hold false information.
- Meeting people online can be risky. Nothing replaces caution when a stranger wants to meet you.
- Keep your last name, email, home address, phone number, workplace, Social Security number and daily routine out of your profile and your first messages, until you’re comfortable with the person.
- Stop talking to anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information, or tries to trick you into sharing it. Block and report them.
- Meeting up? Tell a family member or friend who you’re meeting, where, and when you’ll be back (the app can send the plan). Never agree to be picked up at home. Get yourself there and back, and meet somewhere public with plenty of people around.
- Block and report anyone who’s suspicious, offensive, harassing, threatening or fraudulent, asks you for money, or tries to sell you something. Only report real problems: knowingly false or malicious reports break our rules.
Protecting yourself from sexual assault and dating violence
- Sexual contact without the other person’s consent is a crime that can be prosecuted. It also breaks our rules, and can lead to criminal or civil liability.
- In danger right now? Call 911 (or your local emergency number) first, then report them here.
- If someone you met here assaulted or hurt you, it’s not your fault. Please report it to us and to the police. Reporting can stop them from hurting someone else, and we may need your report to act on their account.
- Free, confidential help, any time: National Sexual Assault Hotline, 1-800-656-4673; National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788; 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, Call or text 988.
Protecting yourself from financial crimes
- Never send money, gift cards, crypto or wire transfers to anyone you meet here, even if they say it’s an emergency. Never share bank, card or account details.
- Signs of a romance scam: fast declarations of love, pressure to move to Telegram or WhatsApp, excuses for never video chatting or meeting, a sudden crisis that needs money, or an “investment” tip.
- Lost money? Tell your bank right away, report them here, and report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and ic3.gov. You’re not to blame.
